Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Crew Management

Lead, train, and supervise paving crew members

Assign daily tasks and ensure efficient workflow

Maintain accountability, productivity, and a positive jobsite culture

Paving & Equipment Operations

Operate and oversee use of paving equipment including Weiler and CAT pavers, rollers, and related machinery

Ensure proper paving techniques, mat consistency, and compaction

Project Coordination

Communicate with Project Managers, Superintendents, inspectors, and engineers

Review work orders, plans, and specifications before and during projects

Coordinate trucking, material delivery, and paving schedules

Production & Efficiency

Meet daily production goals (tonnage, yield, timelines)

Minimize downtime and keep operations running efficiently

Confirm loading times, material types, and tonnage totals

Grading & Layout

Set and verify grades using string line, laser, or GPS (if applicable)

Ensure proper base preparation, drainage, and site conditions

Quality Control

Ensure all work meets DOT and commercial specifications

Perform regular quality checks on paving, rolling, and finish work

Safety

Enforce company safety policies and OSHA standards

Conduct daily safety meetings (tailgate meetings)

Identify and address jobsite hazards

Reporting

Complete and maintain daily job reports

Track production, materials, and job progress

Monitor project budgets and timelines

Qualifications

Required

Minimum 3 years asphalt paving experience

Strong working knowledge of asphalt paving and earthwork equipment

Ability to read and interpret site plans, grades, and measurements

Valid driver’s license with a good driving record

Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work long hours outdoors in varying weather conditions

Ability to meet DOT and commercial paving standards

Preferred

5+ years paving experience

Previous foreman or crew lead experience

Experience with GPS or laser grade control systems (Topcon, Trimble, etc.)

CDL (a plus, but not required)

Compensation & Benefits

$30.00 – $50.00+ per hour (DOE)
