The Master Black Belt (MBB) serves as the senior subject matter expert for Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) initiatives across Navy Medicine. This role provides strategic leadership, oversight, and mentorship in applying Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and Get Real Get Better (GRGB) methodologies to improve operational efficiency, reduce variability, and enhance mission outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Process Improvement Leadership
Lead enterprise-level CPI initiatives aligned with Navy Medicine priorities
Apply advanced Lean Six Sigma methodologies including DMAIC, DMADV, and Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs)
Identify systemic inefficiencies and drive organization-wide transformation efforts
Ensure alignment with ASQ Body of Knowledge and industry best practices Program Oversight & Execution
Oversee multiple concurrent improvement projects across BUMED and subordinate commands
Validate project scopes, measurable outcomes, and alignment with strategic initiatives
Ensure standardization of CPI frameworks, tools, and documentation Mentorship & Training
Mentor and coach Black Belts and Green Belts
Conduct training sessions and professional development programs
Support certification readiness and review project submissions for accuracy and completeness Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with senior leadership, project sponsors, and cross-functional teams
Present findings, recommendations, and performance metrics to executive stakeholders
Foster a culture of continuous improvement across all organizational levels
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Healthcare Administration, or related field
Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification (required)
Minimum 5+ years of relevant CPI/LSS experience
Demonstrated expertise in ASQ MBB Body of Knowledge or equivalent
Experience leading enterprise-wide process improvement initiatives Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting DoD, Navy, or healthcare environments
Strong data analysis, facilitation, and executive communication skills
Experience mentoring and developing LSS practitioners
