Nebraska DHHS is seeking an experienced hands-on Lead Java Developer to support and maintain critical processes and integrations that complement both in-house and external systems for Health and Human Services.
This role leads a small team, oversees and coordinates project execution, sets standards, and provides technical guidance - while contributing directly to code architecture and troubleshooting.
This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with 5+ years of experience with JAVA development and project oversight as well as technical mentoring.
This is a full-time/permanent on-site role in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Not eligible to be a contracted position.

Examples of Work * Lead end-to-end delivery of back-end services and front-end web interface projects from discovery and design to deployment and support * Design and build services using Java 17+ (or current LTS), Spring Boot and Spring Cloud * Host and consume RESTful and SOAP APIs; define contracts and documentation using OpenAPI/ Swagger * Design, develop and deploy Java-based web applications in Microsoft Azure using services such as Azure Ap Service, Azure Functions, Azure Key Vault and Azure SQL.
* Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and implementations plans, manage scope, risks, and dependencies * Provide day-to-day support of processes as well as technical guidance including code reviews and mentoring to improve quality, security, and performance Requirements/Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Associate Degree in Computer Science/IT and four years related experience or a bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or other related field and three years of experience.
Experience may include application programming, software installation and software maintenance, including systems programming, online programming, database design, analysis and programming using IFS and/or SQL/DS and database administration.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications: Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field of study and five years related experience.
Experience may include application design, programming, implementation, software installation and software maintenance, including systems programming, online programming.
The candidate must have at least 5 years of recent experience in the following: Skillset/ experience with Java back-end and web application development 2 - 4 years of experience in a technical lead capacity IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE): 2+ years designing and deploying integration flows Strong proficiency in database integration including IBM DB2 and MS SQL Server Position is located on-site at the Nebraska State Office Building in Lincoln.
