MaxCare Health & Residential Services has six residential homes and a day support offering nursing services for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Service Authorization Specialist is responsible for obtaining and completing documentation and processes to ensure services can be provided.

SERVICE AUTHORIZATION JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for screening of potential individuals in need of services. Complete all pre-admission and admission processes.

Complete authorizations for services.

Attend as needed consumer-related meetings i.e. ISP, IDT, case manager, family, school, and day program, discharge planning etc. and ensure all necessary follow-up is completed.

Responsible for the completion of the initial assessment, comprehensive assessment, annual assessment, residential part V (plan for supports), quarterly, annual reviews, reassessments, and discharge reviews to ensure submission of all required reports in a timely manner.

In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, Program Manager, Health Services Manager will ensure nursing certifications are accurately completed and submitted timely.

In collaboration with the Program Manager will ensure residential documentation supports the individualized services plan.

Will act as a resource for on-the-job training related to the individualized services plan.

Maintain open, frequent communication with Program Managers regarding concerns and general individual receiving services status; consultants and interdisciplinary team members (including outside agency caseworkers and families) regarding individuals receiving service’s needs; and applicable school and adult day program personnel.

Will act as a resource to the Program Manager when oversight of the Residential Program is needed in their absence, matters related to the individualized services plan and for other tasks and errands as time allows.

Present and implement all related agency policies and procedures.

Participate in special projects and committees.

Ensure maintenance of the Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services licensing standards.

Attend routine organizational meetings and outside workshops/conferences and ensure dissemination of relative information to staff and others.

Work cooperatively with all interagency departments, respecting the established chain of command.

Foster open and supportive communication with individuals receiving services, families, guardians, regulatory agencies and other community organizations and agencies.

Remain current with trends and advancements in the field of developmental disabilities as well as changes in pertinent state and federal licensing regulations. Attend relevant conferences, workshops, interagency and interdepartmental meetings.

The employee agrees to cooperate with Agency and DDD Staff during any inspection or investigation.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

May be exposed to infectious disease and/or physical aggression from residents

Majority of work will be in a home environment

May be exposed to stressful situations

Some minor travel

Normal workweeks will be Monday through Friday during regular business hours

Required to be accessible to Directors after hours

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in a human service-related field preferred.

Certification as Qualified Mental Health Professional preferred.

Must have experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.

Upon hire he/she must satisfactorily complete all required trainings required by the County of Chesterfield and the Commonwealth of Virginia

Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.

Must be willing to drive a handicap accessible van with applicable training.

Must be willing to be accessible after hours for emergencies.

Must pass a background check.
