The Role
We are seeking a Catastrophe Modeler with 4 to 6 years of experience to join our North America Analytics team to support the delivery of high-quality analytics and risk insights to re/insurers. This is a unique, high visibility role in a new and growing team to build differentiated analytics capabilities from the ground up as well as shape strategy and drive innovation.
This role offers a blend of hands-on modeling, exposure to strategic initiatives, and client engagement. You'll work closely with brokers and analytics colleagues, gaining insight into client needs and helping shape Willie Re's analytics offering. This role is open to remote candidates located within the East Coast and Central region of the U.S.
Key responsibilities include:
Delivering catastrophe modeling analyses to support reinsurance placements, RFPs, portfolio reviews, and client advisory work across property and/or speciality lines.
Assisting in structuring programs and evaluating alternative reinsurance scenarios including development of clear, decision-ready exhibits for brokers and clients.
Collaborating with analytics and broking stakeholders to support the development of catastrophe modeling workflows, processes, and reporting tools.
Creating analytics submission packs that provide clear, actionable insights.
Supporting quality assurance processes and help ensure consistency across client deliverables.
Presenting model outputs and risk insights to brokers, clients, reinsurers, and other stakeholders.
Collaborating with the Willis Research Network's Model Research Team to develop the Willis Re View of Risk and understand model changes.
Providing modeling support for clients' regulatory and rating agency requirements (e.g., AM Best, S&P, etc.).
Supporting real-time event response, including loss estimation and exposure analytics.
Supporting clients through model change process.
Staying up to date with new tools and methodologies to keep our analytics offering cutting-edge.
About You
Essential:
4 to 6 years experience in catastrophe modeling at a reinsurer, insurer, broker, or vendor.
A degree in a quantitative, analytical, scientific, or engineering discipline (e.g., Maths, Physics, Engineering, Earth Sciences, Geography, Data/Computer Science, Economics).
Experience working with property exposure data.
Familiarity with at least one vendor model (RMS or Verisk).
Understanding of common reinsurance structures (e.g., Catastrophe Excess of Loss, Proportional treaties).
Strong Excel and data manipulation skills; SQL knowledge essential.
Ability to communicate technical work clearly to non-technical audiences.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Desirable:
Progress toward Certified Specialist in Catastrophe Risk (CSCR) Credential through the International Society of Catastrophe Managers (ISCM) and The CAS Institute (iCAS).
Coding skills in Python, R, or similar.
Geospatial (GIS) experience an advantage.
Experience (or interest) in workflow automation and AI.
Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or PowerBI.
Compensation:
Salary Range: US (National): $110,000 - $150,000
The actual salary for this position will be determined by several factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
