FTE: 0.1 (Fixed-term, 2 years)

Start Date: July and October 2026

The Auckland Metro Districts are delivering the NZREX Primary Care Pathway, an innovative programme designed to support international medical graduates (IMGs) to transition into Aotearoa New Zealand’s health workforce through structured, supported experiences, with a focus on building a career in primary care.

We are seeking a number of Pre-Vocational Educational Supervisors from both Primary Care and hospital settings to support participants within the programme. These are 0.1 FTE fixed-term roles for two years, commencing in July and October 2026.

About the role

As a Pre-Vocational Educational Supervisor, you will play a key role in supporting IMG participants through their early postgraduate training. You will work closely with the Clinical Lead and wider programme team to provide educational oversight, pastoral support, and ensure progression against required competencies.

Key responsibilities include:

Providing educational supervision in line with Medical Council of New Zealand requirements

Supporting participants to develop and achieve their learning goals

Contributing to assessment, feedback, and progression decisions

Participating in the supplementary teaching programme and orientation activities as required

Working collaboratively with clinical supervisors, service teams, and programme leadership

About you

You will be an experienced clinician with a strong interest in medical education and workforce development. You will bring:

Essential:

Vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council

Experience in supervision, teaching, or mentoring junior doctors

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

An understanding of the challenges faced by international medical graduates transitioning into the New Zealand health system
