Safety Coordinator
Location: Onsite on Columbus, OH
Salary: $70-100k DOE
Position Overview
The Safety Coordinator oversees and advances the site safety program to protect employees, contractors, and visitors while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This role leads daily safety operations, implements and enforces policies such as Lockout/Tagout and PPE requirements, develops Pre-Task Plans, conducts inspections and incident investigations, and delivers training in Occupational Health and Safety topics including OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, Arc Flash hazards, Bloodborne Pathogens, First Aid and CPR. The primary objective is to reduce risk and incident frequency through proactive hazard identification, training, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement and enforce site safety policies, procedures and programs aligned with OSHA, NFPA 70E and company requirements.
Lead daily safety activities, conduct regular facility and jobsite inspections, and identify hazards for corrective action.
Create, review and approve Pre-Task Plans and safe work permits to ensure jobs are executed safely.
Manage and maintain PPE programs including selection, issuance, use and inspection of personal protective equipment.
Plan and deliver training sessions on Occupational Health and Safety topics: OSHA standards, NFPA 70E, Arc Flash awareness, Bloodborne Pathogens, Lockout/Tagout, and proper PPE use.
Serve as site lead for First Aid and CPR response, maintain responder rosters and ensure certifications are current.
Investigate incidents, near-misses and safety concerns, perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective/preventive actions.
Coordinate with operations, maintenance and contractors to integrate safety into planning and project execution.
Maintain accurate safety records, prepare reports, track metrics (TRIR, near-misses, corrective actions) and support audits and regulatory inspections.
Promote a positive safety culture through leadership, coaching, toolbox talks and employee engagement initiatives.
Qualifications
Associates degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or related field, Bachelors preferred.
2+ years of experience in construction and industrial occupational health and safety.
Required certifications: OSHA 30-hour (or ability to obtain), First Aid and CPR certification; Bloodborne Pathogens training.
Training or certification in NFPA 70E and Arc Flash safety (or equivalent experience).
Practical experience with Lockout/Tagout procedures and program management.
Proficient in developing and delivering Pre-Task Plans, safety training and toolbox talks.
Strong incident investigation skills and experience performing root cause analysis.
