JOB SUMMARY

The Controller, reporting to the General Manager, contributes to Wailea Golf's overall success by overseeing all Company accounting and finance functions. This includes the overall leadership of the accounting department, preparing internal and external financial statements and reports, coordinating and formulating short and long-term Company and departmental strategies, as well as monitoring budgeting, forecasting and analysis for the Company and its individual departments.

This position is responsible for directly communicating and coordinating with Department Heads to formulate short-range and long-range financial strategies, goals, and objectives. The Controller must continuously monitor rapidly changing business and market conditions; and be creative and flexible to develop and implement alternative strategies in anticipation of, and in reaction to, these changing conditions.

PRIMARY DUTIES

Directs the preparation of all financial reports to provide the Leadership teams with accurate, meaningful, and timely information in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Coordinates and facilitates the formulation, together with the General Manager, of both short-range and long-range Company and departmental strategies, goals, and objectives, and determines their financial impact.

Reviews and monitors progress towards goal achievement and recommends alternative strategies and courses of action to achieve maximum profitability considering changing conditions.

Provides financial and operational guidance, and advice, together with the General Manager, to Department Managers to assist them in achieving their goals.

Directs the financial and business performance analyses preparation to provide the information needed to make critical and impactful Company decisions.

Directly supervises the Accounting Manager and assists with leading the Accounting team including hiring, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and termination.

Mentors the Accounting Manager and the Accounting team in best practice procedures for processing and recording financial data to develop and maintain a high level of technical competence. Provides leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity.

Designs, implements, and enforces internal control procedures to ensure the proper protection of the Company's assets and funds.

Reviews, modifies, and implements changes in the accounting system to streamline and expedite financial data processing.

Directs, monitors, and administers the implementation of all standard safety regulations and safety programs within the Administration department to minimize accidents and equipment damage.

Oversees and supports credit and collections administration.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in accounting (BSBA or BBA)

CPA designation preferred, but not required

Ten or more years of professional accounting experience

Five or more years of experience as a senior-level accountant or finance manager

Five or more years of leadership experience

Background in budgeting, profit planning and short-range and long-range financial forecasting

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and SAP Accounting

Embraces technology and above average technical skills an asset

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to address teams in a calm and articulate manner; high in emotional intelligence

High degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making

FUNCTIONAL ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

Movement Needs

Regularly requires sitting and working at a computer workstation, concentration and alertness, attention to detail, writing and composing correspondence, preparing, reading and analyzing financial statements or reports, mathematical ability, and working indoors in an air-conditioned office.

Frequently requires intermittent standing and walking, climbing steps or stairs, use of electronic calculator and multi-line telephone system (finger coordination), reaching, eye-hand coordination, speaking and talking to co-workers and subordinates, supervising others, training and giving instructions.

Occasionally requires light lifting, stooping, kneeling, bending, twisting, pushing/pulling up to 21-50 lbs. (file cabinet drawers), walking or commuting to visit/work at other work sites, meeting requests of co-workers or vendors, receiving instructions, exposure to dirt, dust, heat, sunlight, golf balls in play, chemicals and fertilizers and other environmental conditions associated with working on and around golf courses

Mental and Visual Demands

Regularly involves concentration and alertness, attention to detail, frequently communicates clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; communicate to and receive information from team members, vendors, team members, and peers.

Must be alert and able to exercise good judgment. Close mental and visual attention is a continuous requirement.

Visual capabilities required: good to excellent vision, depth perception, wide field of vision, color vision.

Dexterity Requirement

Must have good hand and eye coordination. Must be able to work with a computer keyboard, cell phone and other electronic devices necessary to the position.

Other

Involves approximately 8 hours indoors and minimal or no hours outdoors.
