Job Title: Material Handler

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Material Handler to operate a large forklift and manage the movement of heavy materials from rail cars in the yard into the shop. The yard features an old trailer from a previous railcar line. You will be responsible for loading and unloading materials from trucks and relocating them around the facility. The materials include large shell plates, pipes, I-beams, flat bars, and other heavy items. Additional duties involve performing shipping and receiving tasks, documentation, and stenciling materials once unloaded.

Responsibilities

Operate a large forklift to move materials from rail cars to the shop.

Load and unload heavy materials from trucks.

Relocate materials around the facility.

Handle shipping, receiving, and documentation tasks as needed.

Stencil materials after unloading.Essential Skills

Proven experience of 5+ years as a material handler.

Proficiency in handling large, long, and heavy materials.

Experience in operating large forklifts such as big Hyster models.Additional Skills & Qualifications

Work Environment

The role involves working both outside in the yard and inside the shop, adjusting to varying weather conditions, hot when hot and cold when cold. The day shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday work as needed. Flexibility is required to rotate to a second shift once established, working 6 months on the first shift and 2-4 months on the second shift, followed by a return to the first shift for 6+ months.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX 77064.Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
