Description:

Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

As a Registered Midwife within the Waitākere Maternity team at Waitakere Hospital, you will provide comprehensive, woman-centred care across the full maternity continuum. Working in a midwifery-led unit, you will be involved in antenatal, birthing, and postnatal care - all within one ward- giving you the opportunity to truly experience it all and build strong clinical continuity.

This is a collaborative and rewarding environment where you will work closely with Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs), consultants, and a dedicated midwifery team to support safe, positive birth experiences. With a high number of births each year, you will gain valuable exposure and contribute to maintaining high standards of practice and outcomes for wāhine and their whānau.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Waitakere Hospital provides primary maternity and secondary obstetric services to the population of West Auckland. Located close to the stunning Waitakere Ranges and the west Auckland beaches, the hospital offers the perfect balance of professional opportunity and lifestyle.

Last year, our team assisted in over 3,000 births. We care for women from 32 weeks’ gestation and have a 12-bed Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU). With a LSCS rate of approximately 24%, and strong working relationships with LMCs, you will have the opportunity to be involved in a high number of births within a supportive and collaborative setting.

As part of Waitemata District, you will also benefit from ongoing support and professional development. Our Midwife Educator provides guidance to ensure a nurturing environment and to support you in maintaining registration and practice standards in line with national guidelines.

About You

As a Registered Midwife, you will bring:

Current registration as a Midwife in New Zealand

Ideally a minimum of two years’ midwifery experience

Experience working across antenatal, birthing, and postnatal settings

A commitment to midwifery-led care and normal childbirth

Strong communication and relationship-building skills to work effectively with LMCs and the wider multidisciplinary team

If you are passionate about providing holistic, high-quality maternity care and are looking to join a supportive and dynamic team in West Auckland, we would love to hear from you
