Position Overview

Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to support a backend development team focused on middleware and backend services. This role requires a strong full-stack foundation with an emphasis on backend development, data processing, and scalable service architecture.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in big data technologies, search/indexing platforms, and cloud-based development, along with strong programming expertise across multiple languages. The candidate will work within an Agile environment to develop, deploy, and maintain high-performance backend systems supporting production applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy middleware and backend services in a production environment

• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs using Spring Boot and modern frameworks

• Process and analyze large datasets using big data technologies such as Spark or PySpark

• Perform data quality analysis to ensure data integrity and consistency

• Implement and manage search/indexing solutions using Solr or Elasticsearch

• Develop backend services using Java, Python, JavaScript, and Bash

• Build and deploy applications within AWS cloud environments

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile development environment

• Utilize JIRA and GitHub for task management, version control, and collaboration

• Work within Linux-based environments (e.g., CentOS) to support development and deployment

Mandatory Skills

• Demonstrated experience utilizing big data technologies such as Spark or PySpark

• Hands-on experience with Solr or Elasticsearch, including:

• Running and managing indexes

• Spinning up clusters

• Loading and managing data

• Performing schema modifications

• Demonstrated experience performing data quality analysis

• Strong proficiency with Regular Expressions (RegEx)

• Programming experience with:

• Java (8+) (Java 17 upgrade planned)

• Python

• JavaScript

• Bash

• Experience working with AWS services

• Experience developing with Spring Boot and building RESTful APIs

• Experience using JIRA and GitHub

• Experience working in Linux environments (e.g., CentOS)

• Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and deploying middleware or backend systems to production

Preferred Skills

• Experience working with distributed or scalable systems

• Familiarity with microservices architectures

• Experience supporting data-intensive applications or analytics platforms

Education

• B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience
