Haverford Township - Public Works Department
Haverford Township is seeking a full-time Vehicle Maintenance Technician responsible for year-round maintenance and repair of all Township-owned vehicles and heavy equipment. Work is performed independently and as part of a team under the direction of the Vehicle Maintenance Superintendent.
Qualifications
• Valid PA CDL and PA State Inspection License (Class 7)
• Formal training in vehicle maintenance and minimum five years' experience
• Must supply own tools
• Knowledge of hydraulic, gasoline, diesel, electric, and hybrid systems
• Experience with electrical diagnostics, scan tools, A/C service, and basic fabrication
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions
• Strong communication skills, professionalism, and commitment to training
• Demonstrated initiative, integrity, and responsible use of resources
Essential Duties
• Maintain and repair Township fleet: fire apparatus, sanitation trucks, dump trucks, police vehicles, recreation vehicles, and heavy equipment
• Perform diagnostics using scan tools and laptops
• Conduct welding and fabrication (ACR, MIG, TIG, gas cutting, grinding)
• Work in field conditions with exposure to weather, dust, fumes, and road hazards
• Use required PPE and participate in ongoing training
• Perform additional public works duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
• Lift and carry 50-100 lbs.; frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing
• Regular movement in and out of vehicles and equipment
• Ability to work extended shifts during winter and emergency operations
• Ability to wear required protective equipment
