Senior Staff Accountant (Part-Time)

$80,000 to $85,000 annually
Join the Air & Space Forces Aid Society as a part-time Senior Staff Accountant and play a critical role in supporting the financial operations behind programs that directly serve Airmen, Guardians, and their families.
As the official charity of the United States Air Force and Space Force, the Air & Space Forces Aid Society has been providing emergency financial assistance, education support, and community programs since 1942. Our work is grounded in trust, accountability, and a commitment to helping military families navigate lifes most challenging moments.
This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who is detail-driven, highly organized, and comfortable working independently within a structured, part-time schedule.
Candidates should have hands-on experience managing reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close processes in a professional accounting environment.
Experience with nonprofit accounting, grant reporting, or systems such as D365, Salesforce, or similar platforms is a plus.
What Youll Do
You will join the finance and accounting team and play a central role in maintaining accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and overall financial integrity across the organization.
In this role, you will:
Perform monthly cash reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records
Prepare and review journal entries and support month-end close
Ensure accuracy of balance sheet and income statement reporting
Review accounts payable processes and weekly payment activity
Monitor banking transactions and identify discrepancies or risks
Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, and inventory tracking
Support financial reporting, including grant and internal reports
Assist with audit preparation and respond to auditor requests
Prepare and review budget versus actual reports
Supervise and support the Staff Accountant
Provide accounting support across departments as needed
Schedule and Work Environment
This is a part-time hybrid role with
Tuesday and Thursday onsite in our Crystal City office in Arlington, Virginia
Wednesday remote from your home office
3 days per week total
What You Bring
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
Experience working with accounting systems and financial data
Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical ability
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Ability to manage deadlines in a part-time schedule
Sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism
A collaborative approach and ability to work across teams
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting
or equivalent experience, 8 or more years in accounting
At least 3 years of progressive accounting experience
Nonprofit experience preferred
