We are looking for a hands-on HR Manager four our one client who thrives in a fast-paced, field-based environment.
This role will lead day-to-day HR operations while supporting a workforce that includes field employees, skilled trades, and union personnel.
You’ll be the go-to partner for leadership and employees, helping navigate employee relations, union matters, and building practical HR processes that actually work in the field.
This is not a sit-back HR role, this is for someone who can roll up their sleeves, solve problems in real time, and bring structure to a growing operation.
Key Responsibilities:Lead, coach, and develop a team of 2 HR team members, ensuring strong day-to-day support across the businessServe as the primary point of contact for employee relations, handling performance issues, investigations, discipline, and conflict resolution across both field and office employeesPartner with leadership and supervisors to ensure consistent application of policies and fair treatment across crews and job sitesSupport and manage union relationships, including interpreting collective bargaining agreements, advising leadership, and ensuring compliance with union rules and requirementsRevamp and modernize the employee handbook and HR policies to reflect current operations, union considerations, and compliance standardsEvaluate current workflows and streamline HR operations, simplifying processes for hiring, onboarding, and employee management in a field environmentAssist with the enhancement and optimization of the HRIS, improving data accuracy, reporting, and usability for both HR and leadershipOversee core HR functions including onboarding, off boarding, compliance, and record keepingEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including union and field workforce requirementsAct as a bridge between the field and leadership, ensuring communication is clear, practical, and actionable Qualifications:5+ years of HR experience, with experience supporting blue-collar, field-based, or construction/infrastructure environmentsUnion experience required, including working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and labor relationsStrong background in employee relations and handling workplace issues in fast-paced environmentsExperience updating HR policies and employee handbooksHands-on experience with HRIS systems (implementation, cleanup, or optimization preferred)Ability to operate both strategically and tactically, comfortable being in the weeds when neededStrong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with field employees, supervisors, and executivesHighly organized, practical, and solutions-oriented Preferred Qualifications:Experience in construction, utilities, infrastructure, or similar industriesHR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR)Experience improving or building HR processes from the ground up What Success Looks Like:HR processes that are simple, efficient, and actually work for field teamsStrong, consistent handling of employee and union-related mattersUpdated policies and handbook that reflect real-world operationsImproved communication and trust between field employees and leadershipA more organized, data-driven HR function supported by an optimized HRIS
