What you'll do at DBH:
The Information Technologist 1 is an entry-level IT professional who provides support and service to users of information systems operating in stand-alone, client/server, web-based, and networked environments. Under general supervision, this role applies established methods and procedures to troubleshoot issues, support system operations, and assist higher-level IT staff with technical tasks.
This position is ideal for individuals seeking to build foundational IT skills while contributing to the reliability and security of agency systems.
Key Responsibilities
User Support & Troubleshooting
Provide technical support to users across various computing environments (stand-alone, client/server, web-based, and networked systems)
Perform routine analysis to identify and resolve basic system and application issues
Follow established procedures to troubleshoot and document problems and resolutions
Installation & Technical Support
Assist IT specialists with installation and monitoring activities.
Unpack, stage, and rack hardware components.
Perform setup and installation of hardware and software systems.
Support network connectivity and basic telecommunications setup.
Install telecommunications hardware and wiring as needed.
Monitor systems and escalate issues or concerns to higher-level IT staff.
Systems & Application Support
Learn and apply application coding specifications under guidance.
Assist with implementing minor system or application updates.
Support ongoing system operations and maintenance activities.
Security & Compliance
Promote system security and user awareness by adhering to agency and state IT security policies and standards.
Follow established protocols to protect data integrity, confidentiality, and system access.
This is an hourly position covered by the OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of 30 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm. This position is located within our Office of Information Technology, headquartered at the James Rhodes State Office Tower, 30 East Broad Street, 27th floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215.
Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
6 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: computers &/or electronics and/or in telecommunications performing routine analysis, programming, installation, maintenance and/or systems support, solving problems with pre-determined methods on basic hardware or software including experience providing customer support.
-Or 2 courses in computer science or information systems.
-Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.
