Job Description
About the Role:
A Structured Cabling Technician is responsible for the installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of low voltage cabling systems in commercial and data center environments. This role supports mission critical infrastructure by installing copper and fiber optic cabling that supports voice, data, security, and wireless systems. Technicians work on active construction sites and must follow strict safety and quality standards.
Specific Responsibilities:
Install, route, and secure CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, and fiber optic cabling.
Terminate and test copper and fiber cables using appropriate testing equipment.
Install cable pathway systems including cable tray, ladder rack, basket tray, J hooks, and D rings.
Label, dress, and organize cables according to industry and project standards.
Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and cable schedules.
Rack and stack network equipment and patch panels.
Install faceplates, data jacks, patch panels, and fiber enclosures.
Perform cable testing using Fluke testers or similar certification tools.
Troubleshoot connectivity issues and repair faulty terminations.
Maintain clean and organized work areas on active construction sites.
Follow OSHA and jobsite safety requirements at all times.
Work from ladders, lifts, and elevated platforms as required.
Required Qualifications:
Reliable transportation and ability to report to the jobsite on time daily.
Valid driver’s license if required for the role.
Full PPE including hard hat, safety vest, steel toe boots, gloves, and safety glasses.
Basic hand tools and trade specific tools as required.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods.
Ability to follow safety protocols and OSHA guidelines.
Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to take direction.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or extended shifts as needed.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
Ability to work in secure or badge access environments.
