Direct Support Professional DSP

Job Description

Position Summary:

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, assisting them in achieving greater independence and enhancing their quality of life. DSPs support daily living activities, ensure health and safety, and promote community integration.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct care and supervision to individuals in residential and/or community settings

• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation

• Administer medications (med cert)

• Monitor and document individual progress, behaviors, and any incidents

• Support individuals in community outings, appointments, and recreational activities

• Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment

• Follow individualized service plans (ISP) and implement behavioral support strategies as needed

• Communicate effectively with team members, families, and supervisors

• Ensure the health, safety, and rights of all individuals served

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED (required)

• Valid CPR and First Aid Certification (required)

• Medication Administration Certification (required)

• Valid driver’s license (required)

• Active auto insurance (required)

• Reliable transportation (required)

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities

• Knowledge of behavior support strategies

• Experience with documentation and ISP implementation

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, transfer, and assist individuals as needed

• Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods
