Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Operating Engineer to support the maintenance, reliability, and continuous improvement of our manufacturing facilities. This role is responsible for assisting with day-to-day operations as well as the monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of building, mechanical, and operating systems.

Work Schedule:

Support shift work with a rotating schedule: 2 weeks on days, afternoons, and midnights.

Duties:

Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot facility systems, including hot water boilers, chillers, HVAC, air compressors, cooling water systems, and above- and below-ground bulk fluid storage, along with general building maintenance

Provide downtime support and DIN call response to ensure safe and timely restoration of services

Execute strong daily PDCA activities, including resolving daily deficiencies through root cause analysis (RCA), implementing effective countermeasures (CM), completing activity follow-ups, and closing incident report countermeasures

Schedule and manage the Building Automation System (BAS) for HVAC, lighting, compressed air, and process control systems

Perform effective preventive maintenance (PM) activities during core operating hours to support system reliability and operational efficiency

Complete accurate and timely CMMS (Maximo) data entry, documenting approximately 90% of daily maintenance activities

Maintain strong daily communication with team members, supervision, and internal stakeholders

Participate in project and theme-based improvement activities, supporting departmental QCDMS (Quality, Cost, Delivery, Morale, Safety) objectives

Support continuous improvement through on-the-job training, skill-based development, self-directed learning, equipment knowledge, and technical training

Lead and support department 5S activities, promoting organization, standardization, and pride in the workplace

Source parts and materials to support maintenance, repair, and improvement activities

Create and maintain accurate incident reports, including investigation support and corrective actions

Review and support new equipment specifications, providing input on maintainability, safety, and operational requirements

Requirements:

3rd Class Operating Engineer License required; or 4th Class Operating Engineer License with a valid Refrigeration Operator “B” Certificate

Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Demonstrated ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with team members, contractors, and vendors to coordinate and complete projects and activities

Experience with Maximo Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for logging maintenance activity and ordering parts

Project management experience (ability to manage contractors and construction projects)

Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, analyze, and summarize data into clear and concise reports

Secondary trade certification, such as Refrigeration Mechanic (313A), Facilities Technician (255B), Industrial Millwright (433A), Petroleum Mechanic certification (PMH 2 or 3) or Licensed Gas Technician certification (IMT, G1, or G2), is considered an asset

Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining:

Centrifugal air compressors

Mechanical chillers

Hot water heating systems and associated auxiliaries

Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS)

Proven ability to improve preventive maintenance (PM) work instructions and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
