Associate Director Undergraduate Academic Advising

Under the direction of the Director of Academic Advising, serves as Associate Director for Undergraduate Advising within the College of Engineering. Contributes to the leadership of academic advising operations through direct oversight and supervision of lead advisors and advising managers and indirect supervision of undergraduate academic advisors in the academic units of the college. Partners with unit leaders to ensure operational consistency and share information with faculty and staff. Contributes to the development of advising policies, processes, procedures, and operating strategies. Establishes expectations and ensures consistent delivery of advising across academic units. Responsible for academic records, petitions, orientation, support for academic recovery, and college-wide special academic programming. Assists advisors and managers with complex or escalated cases and provides guidance and resolutions to parents and campus stakeholders. Supports other College offices and initiatives and serves on College and University committees. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
Target hiring range for this job profile is $66,900 – $83,600. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.

Required Qualifications
Master’s degree or equivalent education and/or experience. A minimum of 7 years’ experience academic advising, higher education, or a related area inclusive of supervisory experience. Able to apply and operationalize student development theories in training and practice. Understands and follows FERPA guidelines; stays abreast of changes to implementation of FERPA; trains, interprets, explains FERPA guidelines to colleagues and stakeholders. Expert understanding of programs and specialty areas, and the interactions between academics and policies. Historical knowledge of academic advising profession, including ability to adapt to changing trends and deliveries of advising. Able to apply theory to practice; creates training programs to develop skills in advisors. Demonstrates superior communication skills; able to discuss detail, depth, context, rationale and implications. Utilizes adaptive relational and supervision skills to supervise and mentor. Understands complexity of academic choices & combinations, and interactions in degree planning (minors, dual degrees, academic enhancement, etc.). Able to understand and train advisors on understanding the logic, meaning, and outcomes of curriculum; understands and communicates the value of engineering degrees. Detailed understanding of Title IX, NCAA, HR, Student, and Academic requirements and policies.

Experience and understanding of OSU academic advising policies and procedures. Extensive knowledge of university policies and procedures. Expert knowledge of SIS transactions.
