LOAD BALANCING

Role Overview

The Lead Automation Network Engineer - Load Balancing is a senior technical leadership role responsible for the strategy, design, automation, and operation of large-scale, highly available application delivery and load balancing platforms. This role focuses on enabling resilient, scalable, and secure external and internal connectivity through automated, data-driven load balancing solutions that support Internet-facing, B2B, and enterprise application environments.

You will serve as a technical authority and advisor, guiding the evolution of load balancing and application traffic management platforms while driving automation, standardization, and operational excellence across global environments. Key Responsibilities

Strategy, Architecture, and Design

Lead the strategy, architecture, and design of enterprise load balancing and application delivery solutions across data centers, edge locations, and cloud-adjacent environments.

Define long-term, scalable traffic management and load balancing architectures that align with evolving application, security, and business requirements.

Act as a subject matter expert for Layer 4-7 technologies including load balancing, SSL/TLS, DNS-based traffic steering, and application health monitoring.

Partner with application, security, and infrastructure teams to align load balancing capabilities with business continuity, performance, and resiliency objectives. Automation and Engineering Excellence

Design and implement automation-first solutions for load balancing platforms using Python, Ansible, and Infrastructure-as-Code principles.

Develop standardized, repeatable, and testable workflows for provisioning, configuration, scaling, and lifecycle management of load balancing services.

Leverage network and application data models as authoritative sources of truth (SoT) to maintain configuration integrity, consistency, and compliance.

Drive automated validation, testing, and orchestration of load balancing configurations to reduce risk and improve deployment velocity. Operations, Reliability, and Risk Management

Ensure continuous availability, performance, and resilience of application delivery services supporting critical business applications.

Proactively identify capacity, performance, and resiliency risks within load balancing environments and lead remediation efforts.

Perform regular proactive testing (e.g., failover, health validation, certificate lifecycle checks) to ensure platform reliability and readiness.

Investigate and resolve complex load balancing and traffic management issues, providing clear impact analysis and resolution guidance. Security and Compliance

Lead or contribute to the implementation of security controls across load balancing and application delivery platforms, including TLS policies, WAF integrations, and access controls.

Apply knowledge of security, regulatory, and compliance requirements to design hardened, compliant application delivery solutions.

Collaborate closely with network and application security teams to embed security into the load balancing lifecycle. Collaboration, Mentorship, and Governance

Serve as a technical advisor to stakeholders across engineering, operations, and business teams.

Mentor and train network and platform engineers on load balancing technologies, automation practices, and operational standards.

Produce and maintain technical design documents, operational runbooks, and automation blueprints for enterprise use.

Partner cross-functionally with Product Infrastructure, Network Operations, Security, and Application teams to continuously refine standards and best practices.

Deliver comprehensive change and maintenance plans for review and approval through formal change management processes. Required Qualifications

4+ years of Network Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, education, or military experience.

5+ years of experience developing automation for network or application delivery platforms using Python and Ansible.

Hands-on experience with load balancing and application delivery technologies (Layer 4/7).

Strong understanding of network data, data modeling, data sources, and Source-of-Truth (SoT) concepts to ensure data integrity and automation reliability. Desired Qualifications

Experience with load balancer automation, orchestration, and automated testing frameworks.

Experience managing network and application delivery data using ServiceNow, Nautobot, or similar systems.

Proficiency with API-driven infrastructure, including REST APIs and GraphQL.

Experience with JINJA, JSON, REST, YAML, YANG, and related data and templating technologies.

Familiarity with Django ORM and structured data backends supporting automation platforms.

Experience with Git-based workflows, CI/CD tooling, and integrations (e.g., Git, Jira, Jenkins).

Experience operating in a large, complex enterprise environment with global scale.

Strong experience authoring and maintaining technical architecture and design documentation.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Business Context

This role is critical to advancing enterprise application delivery and external connectivity capabilities. The Lead Automation Network Engineer - Load Balancing will drive the design and automation of next-generation load balancing platforms that support large-scale application migrations, data center modernization, and partner connectivity initiatives.

These capabilities directly enable the migration of thousands of applications and business partner connections into modernized data center environments, accelerate data center exit strategies, and reduce operational risk. Delays or deficiencies in load balancing design, automation, or reliability could significantly impact application performance, resilience, and overall transformation timelines. EEO:
