**Top Requirements**
1. **6+ years Java development experience.**
2. **6+ years Spring Boot experience.**
3. **3+ years Cloud experience** (Azure preferred, but *any* cloud acceptable).
4. Must complete a **HackerRank or Glider assessment**.
5. Strong hands-on engineering skills --- must be able to speak to work performed and pass technical screening.

**Job Summary**
This senior Specialty Software Engineer role will support the **Check Modernization program**, which processes **5 million+ checks nightly for billions of dollars in transaction value**. The engineer will work as a full member of an Agile scrum team, contributing hands-on to the application modernization effort as the organization transitions from **mainframe to cloud**.
The role requires strong Java and Spring Boot expertise, distributed systems experience, event-driven architecture familiarity, and comfort working in a modernization program with high reliability and throughput requirements.
As part of a large multi-year consolidation effort (27 applications reducing to 4), the engineer will focus primarily on one application and one scrum team dedicated **100% to modernization work**.
**Day-to-Day Responsibilities**
- Develop and enhance **Spring Boot Java microservices** for large-scale modernization.
- Build integrations using **Kafka, JMS, REST APIs**, and cloud-based messaging patterns.
- Support containerized workloads (Kubernetes preferred).
- Collaborate with developers in Columbus and India across 3 scrum teams.
- Participate in story grooming, sprint planning, development, and release activities.
- Troubleshoot production-like issues and help prepare for a future weekend support rotation.
- Work across mainframe-to-cloud transition workflows and modernization pipelines.
- Contribute to cloud deployment design and best practices.
