Description:

Location: Onsite - 200 Spectrum Center Drive, Irvine

Compensation: $17/hour

Commitment: 20 hours/week (Flexible scheduling to accommodate classes if in school)

The Opportunity

We are hiring a part-time engineer to help build foundational components of a new compliance and data-processing system. You will be writing real production code from week one, working from technical specifications, conforming to strict external standards, and integrating with secure external endpoints.

This role is well suited to a student or early-career developer who is comfortable working independently and who treats AI coding tools as a primary part of their workflow.

What You’ll Be Doing

Specification translation. Reading dense technical specifications and translating them into working code.

Schema-driven development. Building structured data and validating it against published schemas, ensuring our output is correct on the first attempt.

Rules implementation. Translating rules from regulatory and technical documents into executable checks, so problems are caught before anything leaves our system.

Secure transmission. Wiring up signed requests to external endpoints, including the test cycles required to verify everything works end to end.

AI-assisted engineering. Collaborating closely with AI coding tools throughout the workflow. Claude Code is our preferred tool. We expect you to use it fluently as the core of how you work, reading what it produces, catching its mistakes, and shipping reliable code. What We’re Looking For

Fluency with AI coding tools. This is the most important qualification on this list. You should be comfortable using Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or a similar tool as the primary way you write code.

Strong reading comprehension for dense technical documentation. You do not need to know our domain in advance, but you do need to be the kind of person who can sit down with a long technical PDF and turn it into working code without supervision.

Programming proficiency. Solid working knowledge of at least one general-purpose language such as Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, or Java. Specific language matters less than your ability to learn and apply.

Comfort with ambiguity. Real-world specifications contradict themselves, leave gaps, and use unfamiliar terminology. We expect you to make a judgment call, document your reasoning, and continue.

Intellectual honesty. You will catch yourself getting things wrong, and you will catch the AI getting things wrong. We expect you to notice, fix it, and surface it, rather than hide it.

Detail orientation. A single incorrect character in a structured document can cause an entire submission to be rejected. You take pride in code that works the first time. Why Join Us?

Real Impact: Your work will directly affect how clients manage their financial lives.

Career Growth: We are looking for long-term teammates. Potential for full-time conversion.
