Description
The mission of Gaston County Emergency Medical Services (GEMS) is to preserve and enhance the quality of life for the residents and visitors of Gaston County by providing superior quality Emergency Medical Service. This position is designed for individuals seeking to start their career as an EMT with real world experience.
Starting Hourly Rate for this position will be: $16.8750
Examples of Duties
The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform:
Stock closets with supplies at beginning and end of each shift.
Cleaning and decontamination of Emergency Response Vehicles.
Meet trucks at shift change and stock their necessary items.
Refill oxygen tanks.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalency.
Valid Driver's License
Additional Information
Special knowledge, abilities, skills, physical requirements, and other factors:
Ability to:
Determine the most efficient route for delivery of supplies to stations.
Apply commonly accepted safety procedures and precautions.
Conduct daily visual inspections of work unites and their vehicles.
Assist work units in cleaning ambulances.
Establish, maintain, and enhance effective working relationships with the general public, medical community, medical volunteers, and other governmental agencies.
Operate a personal or county vehicle or other vehicles in the performance of official business and under varying conditions.
Operate a computer.
Prepare and maintain departmental physical conditioning standards.
Communicate effectively, both orally and written, with various public and private agencies, the general public, government officials, and employees of the County.Skill needed:
Keyboarding or typing

Gaston County Personnel Policies and Procedures
GEMS Standard Operating Procedures and Medical Protocols
OSHA RegulationsPhysical requirements:
Sitting/standing/lifting/bending/stooping

Driving emergency vehicles
Candidates selected will undergo a background check. The candidate selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
