Job Title: Commissioning Engineer, 100% TravelOverview We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to lead, execute, and document commissioning activities for utility substation protection, control, and power systems.

This role is hands on and field focused, requiring a strong technical experience, precise documentation skills, and the ability to work within project requirements, budgets, and timelines.

Key Responsibilities + Plan, coordinate, and document all phases of commissioning activities, including pre commissioning, construction, testing, energization, and project close out.

+ Review wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering documentation before project start and throughout project execution.

+ Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for protection and control systems and substation equipment.

+ Participate in project meetings such as kickoff, planning, progress reviews, and lessons learned sessions.

+ Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports, including progress updates, issues, test results, and recommendations.

+ Assist in the development of project specific testing and commissioning plans and related documentation.

+ Identify system and equipment risks and recommend effective mitigation strategies.

+ Conduct all required tests on equipment and systems, ensuring results are documented, filed, and distributed accurately.

+ Develop and review comprehensive test reports for electrical equipment.

+ Create Site Risk Assessments outlining high risk construction and commissioning activities.

Essential Qualifications + Minimum 4 years of utility commissioning experience.

+ Hands on experience with relay, protection & control, and electrical apparatus testing.

+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

+ Valid driver's license in good standing.

+ Ability and willingness to travel extensively and work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications + 5+ years of testing and commissioning experience, preferably within the electric utility sector.

+ Ability to interpret construction drawings, manufacturer documentation, and detailed schematic diagrams.

+ Strong understanding of-or ability to quickly learn-electrical protection systems, relay communication, and AC/DC schematics.

+ Professional experience working with medium and high voltage substation or power plant equipment.

+ Proficiency with Doble Protection Suite, ProTest, and SEL AcSELerator (highly preferred). Work Environment This position is 100% field based, primarily supporting operations across PA to OH, with opportunities to work in other regions as needed.

The role involves extended travel, flexible scheduling, and frequent weekend or holiday work.

Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Columbus, OH.

Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
