Job Summary
Machine: Uteco 8-Color CI (Central Impression) Press
Ink System: Solvent-based inks
Industry: Flexible Packaging Printing (plastic films such as LDPE, MDPE, BOPP, Compostable material)
The Press Operator is responsible for providing leadership on the printing press, ensuring maximum machine and raw material efficiencies are achieved while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment. The Press Operator will be expected to follow the production schedule, manage line changeovers to operate at maximum efficiency and produce a high-quality product. Safety, quality, and productivity goals will be expected.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operate 8-color CI flexographic press (solvent-based process)
Print on flexible packaging materials (BOPP, MDPE, LDPE, Compostable material)
Control color consistency and register accuracy
Adjust impression, tension, viscosity, and drying systems
Read and thoroughly understand the Job Ticket before starting each job
Able to remove and mount print plates as needed
Achieve optimal set-up, change-over, and wash up time
Operate at the highest speed possible without compromising job quality and crew safety
Produce jobs according to the specifications and instructions written on the job ticket
Properly identify and “flag” product that has questionable quality
Minimize unnecessary waste and spoilage of materials such as film, ink, chemicals, and other supplies
Facilitate post-press operations with properly printed identification on rolls
Perform routine maintenance/repairs and cleaning of the printing presses
Maintain cleanliness and order in vicinity of the printing presses
Accurately record all necessary job data
Understands color and the instruments used to monitor or correct color during a make-ready and press run.
Inputs accurate information into the data collection process.
Responsible for maintaining and understanding all tools and instruments to operate and maintain the press.
Cooperates with the pre-press department when interaction is necessary for job production.
Works well in a team environment
Adheres to all Company safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Works scheduled hours with predictable and reliable attendance
Performs various special projects and other duties as assigned
Requirements
Proven experience on CI flexographic presses (preferably Uteco)
Experience in flexible packaging industry (not labels or corrugated)
Understanding of anilox rolls, doctor blades, plate mounting, and web tension control
Ability to work with tight color tolerances and high-speed production
High School Diploma or GED
Five years press operating experience
