Please apply online at SAU39.org Head Groundskeeper JOB DESCRIPTION General Summary: The Head Groundskeeper is responsible for the maintenance and improvements of all athletic fields and irrigated areas of the school district properties.
The Head Groundskeeper will ensure that these grounds are kept in top condition for full and productive use.
The Head Groundskeeper is responsible for assisting in snow removal and supervision of part time summer workers in all ground care activities.
Essential Functions: - Perform all ground care activities including, but not limited to mowing, edging, hedge trimming, weeding, raking, leaf disposal, planting, and debris/sand removal.
- Perform and supervise the preparation and application of herbicides and insecticides to grounds in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Remain up to date and informed on current practices of job related functions and maintain appropriate certification and training hours as required.
- Perform all tasks related to preparation of athletic fields for games and practices including field paint lining, chalk lining, and layout of athletic fields according to school athletic division specifications.
- Maintenance, operation, and programming of all district irrigation systems.
- Removal of snow and ice as necessary to provide a safe environment at all school district properties.
Must be available for snow and ice removal on nights and weekends when necessary - Maintain all grounds equipment, including corrective and preventive maintenance.
Record keeping of maintenance must be forwarded to the facility department in a timely manner.
- Maintain inventory of all grounds equipment and supplies.
- Trash cleanup after all activities on athletic facilities.
Must be available to work grounds events on nights and weekends when necessary - Provide equipment recommendations for all grounds maintenance activities.
- When not engaged in grounds responsibilities, assist the Maintenance staff, HVAC Technician, and Master Electrician in a variety of general tasks throughout the district.
- Drive to vendors, as required, to secure ordered repair parts.
- Respond to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate grounds or facility concerns.
- Initiate and complete required logs, work orders, records, and reports for each job assignment as required.
- Move, transport, deliver, stack, shelve and/or inventory equipment, supplies, books and furniture.
- Responsible for purchasing materials with open district vendor accounts; ensuring invoices are turned in daily with proper information for work order transactions; maintaining supplies, inventories and equipment; and working with prescribed budget.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

- Material and Equipment used: Field and Turf Maintenance Equipment, Telephone, Computer, Pesticide Applicator, Motor Vehicle, Plow, Sander Minimum Qualifications Required: High school diploma or equivalent; five years of successful experience in field turf management, irrigation maintenance, and grounds operations; Possession of a valid driver's license; successful completion of criminal history background check.
Licensure/Certification Requirements: Possession of a State of New Hampshire pesticide license.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge of: - Principles and practices of grounds maintenance and management.
- Field and ground maintenance, lawn and plant care, irrigation, and sprinkler systems.
- Proper use and application of pesticides and fertilizers.
- Basic computer operation.
- Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
- SAU policies and procedures Working Conditions: - Regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally move up to 75 pounds.
- Work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
- Use close/distance/color/peripheral/depth vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Manually shovel snow, operate a snow blower, and a snow plow.
- Sustain manual labor for 8 or more hours, exhibiting full range of motion for shoulder, back, hip, knee movements.
- Work at various elevated heights and restricted spaces, with a variety of toxic or caustic chemicals, in a variety of outside weather conditions in a safe and effective manner.
- Demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to perform fine maintenance procedures and operate both manual and power hand tools in a safe and effective manner.
