Job Description

JOB FUNCTION:

The Nurse Practitioner works in collaboration with physicians to provide patient medical services. The collaborative practice of the APRN FNP/BC includes accepting referral from, consulting with, cooperating with or referring to other health care providers in order to promote comprehensive and continuity of care in a primary care practice. Responsible for accurate, concise, legible, and timely documentation of all pertinent patient information. Appropriately and professionally communicates between staff members, management, and physicians. The Nurse Practitioner functions as an integral part of the medical clinic team. All tasks must be performed in compliance with established policies and procedures of Allen Parish Community Healthcare.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works in collaboration with a physician to assess, treat and manage the physical needs of patients

Obtains patient history and develops patient care charts, ensuring completeness and accuracy

Interprets and records results of clinical tests in managing patient health and illness needs

Making decisions in solving patient care problems and selecting treatment regimens in collaboration with a licensed physician, or other health care provider as indicated; and evaluate patient outcomes

Providing guidance and teaching. Working with patients and families in meeting health care needs

Participates in planning programs and in the development of specific health care policies and procedures

Maintains a working knowledge of and adheres to all hospital and nursing policies and procedures

Must have the ability to identify and address the special needs of all patient in pertinent areas including: all ages

Attends and participates in required staff meeting, in-services, select committees and annual hospital orientation

Knows CPR, disaster, safety and fire plans. Correctly and quickly responds to all hospital and clinic codes. Actively participates in emergency drills conducted as need be.

Properly documents in patient record and signs off to include name, date and time

Improves job knowledge through self-study

Complies with APH dress code policies including a neat and clean appearance. While at work, wears his/her employee badge for proper identification

Consistently reports to work on time and as scheduled

Displays a positive attitude and is courteous to fellow employees, supervisors, patients, and quest of the clinic.

Maintains universal precautions at all times with all patients

Successfully and timely completes on-hire and annual hospital orientation requirements. He/she adheres to all policies which are identified in the APH employee handbook

Evaluates patients in accordance with hospital and licensing requirements of collaborative practice

Assessing patients, analyzing and synthesizing data, and knowledge of and applying nursing principles at an advanced level

Managing patients’ physical and psychosocial health-illness status with regard to nursing care

Analyzing multiple sources of data and identifying and performing certain acts of medical diagnosis in accordance with the collaborative practice agreement

Making decisions in solving patient care problems and selecting treatment regimens in collaboration with a licensed physician, or other health care provider as indicated

Consulting with or referring patients to licensed physicians, and other health care providers in accordance with collaborative practice agreement

Required to rotate through the onsite BHU to complete H&Ps.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

1 year previous nursing experience as a Registered Nurse

Maintain CEUs required for Nurse Practitioner licensure in State of Louisiana

Job Knowledge:

Knowledge of the practice and techniques

Knowledge of the laboratory techniques and methods

Ability to maintain positive public relations

Skills:

Able to communicate with others effectively

Able to provide direct care in a kind and compassionate manner

Able to respond appropriately even in a stressful situations

Physical Demands:

Fine motor skills, bending, stretching, sitting, standing, and walking while on duty. May require lifting of 50 to 100 pounds. Possesses personal qualities such as kindness, empathy, understanding, respect, good judgment, integrity, loyalty, a sense of humor, and an ability to relate to people in a humanistic manner while working in a stressful environment. Ability to distinguish colors and shading. Exposure to possible hazardous materials/conditions and infectious diseases in the clinic and hospital setting. Utilizes proper body mechanics with all movements.

License:

Current license as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Louisiana

Master’s degree in nursing is required

Must have completed a program of study designed to prepare an RN for advanced practice and which meets Board of Nursing standards for practice as an APRN.

BLS/CPR certification is required

PALS certification is preferred

ACLS certification is preferred

Must adhere to HIPAA regulations according to Allen Parish Hospital Policy, and uphold the Privacy Act law and regulations.
