Description

Rusk County Forestry Campground Hosts are volunteers who assist park staff with campground operations and provide a variety of information to visitors including campground safety and local points of interest. We are currently looking for a campground host at Josie Creek and Perch Lake. The satisfaction of helping both the County Forest and its visitors is the Campground Host's greatest reward. Hosts meet visitors from all walks of life, and often fellow campers may become lasting friends. Many hosts and campers return to the same campground year after year.

Examples of Duties

The volunteer serves as a "live-in" host at the campground. The primary responsibility is to assist campers by answering questions and explaining regulations that apply to them.

Perform light maintenance work around the campground such as picking up litter, sweeping and stocking restrooms, and clearing firepits.

Act as a liaison between campers and park staff; provide information to park staff on potential problems, disseminating information to campers, etc.

Be observant and advise campers and visitors of unintentional infractions. Flagrant violations will be reported to the park staff.

Be familiar with local points of interest. Answer questions on local attractions, activities, and current trail and fishing conditions.

Typical Qualifications

Set an example by being a model camper practicing good housekeeping at all times in and around the assigned site, and by observing appropriate camping behavior.

Display a willing attitude to deal with campground users in a helpful manner.
