The Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Sr. ME) is a leadership-level engineering position responsible for managing complex, cross-functional manufacturing projects. The Sr. ME applies advanced engineering principles and technical expertise to optimize manufacturing operations, lead innovation, and mentor other engineers. This role is critical for advancing plant automation, meeting quality standards, and driving cost-saving initiatives across multiple sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Lead large-scale manufacturing projects, including cross-site coordination and technical leadership
Act as subject matter expert in specialized manufacturing domains such as advanced welding, robotic integration, and customer system compliance.
Develop, implement, and refine high-impact production processes to improve quality, throughput, and cost-efficiency.
Create, review, and approve advanced documentation including process FMEAs, work instructions, and equipment specifications.
Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex production or equipment issues; serve as a technical escalation point.
Train and mentor junior engineers and technical staff; provide leadership in problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, A3).
Evaluate and implement advanced manufacturing technologies, automation tools, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with suppliers and customers on technical requirements, launch plans, and engineering changes.
Drive IATF16949 documentation compliance and support audit readiness.
Develop and track KPIs related to OEE, MTTR, MTBF, and other operational metrics.
Lead plant layout improvements and material flow designs for new and existing programs.Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related technical field.
5+ years of experience in an automotive manufacturing environment, with demonstrated leadership in major engineering projects.
Preferred Certifications & Skills:
Certified Welding Engineer or Laser Welding Officer (or equivalent training).
Advanced proficiency in robotic programming, Allen Bradley PLCs, AutoCAD, GD&T.
CQI-15 Welding System Assessment experience.
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred.
Strong ERP and BOM configuration experience.
Exceptional communication and leadership abilities across technical and non-technical teams.
Supervisory Responsibility
May provide direction to other engineers or technical staff on assigned projects. May serve as a project leader.
Work Environment
Combination of office and plant floor environment. Occasional travel to other manufacturing sites (e.g., Lorain) for technical support.
