Technical Specialist - Biochemistry

Permanent, full-time role based across Waitematā District Laboratory sites

Opportunity to assist in leading a Biochemistry team where your skills help improve services, support colleagues, and make a real difference to patient care across Waitematā District

About the Role

Join our Biochemistry team in a senior technical role where you’ll provide leadership, support service improvements, and help deliver accurate, timely diagnostic testing. You’ll work closely with the Service Lead to introduce new methods, support staff development, and maintain high quality standards. This is a collaborative role where you’ll contribute to a service that’s always evolving to meet the needs of our patients and whānau.

The position is mainly Monday to Friday during business hours, with some flexibility to cover occasional rostered shifts, including weekends and public holidays, across our Waitematā laboratory sites.

About you

To be successful in this role, you’ll:

Be a Registered Medical Laboratory Scientist with the New Zealand Medical Sciences Council and a current APC (essential), with a relevant postgraduate qualification preferred

Have at least 5 years’ experience in a hospital Biochemistry lab, with proven leadership and senior/specialist technical experience

Have a strong background in quality improvement, method verification, and equipment evaluation

Have excellent communication, organisation, and relationship-building skills, with a proactive and innovative approach

Be able to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain accuracy and professionalism under pressure
