Direct Counsel is seeking a Private Client International Trusts & Estates Planning Associate / Attorney to join the nationally recognized private client practice of a sophisticated East Coast–based law firm.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney with 4+ years of sophisticated international estate planning experience to work with high-net-worth individuals, multinational families, family offices, and closely held businesses on complex cross-border wealth planning matters.
The role offers highly sophisticated exposure to international tax structuring, pre-immigration planning, expatriation matters, foreign trusts, global reporting compliance, and multi-jurisdictional wealth transfer strategies.Position Overview
The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of international trusts and estates planning experience, with demonstrated strength advising U.S. and non-U.S. taxpayers on cross-border tax, trust, estate, and wealth structuring matters.
This role is ideal for an attorney experienced in:
Cross-border estate and gift tax planning
Foreign trust structuring
Pre-immigration and expatriation planning
Family office advisory matters
International tax compliance and reporting
U.S. real estate ownership planning for non-U.S. persons
Multinational succession and governance structures
The firm offers a highly flexible hybrid work model, including flexibility on in-office days and consideration for part-time candidates.Key Responsibilities
Advise high-net-worth U.S. and international families on sophisticated cross-border estate planning
Structure and advise on foreign trusts and offshore wealth vehicles
Handle pre-immigration and expatriation tax planning
Advise non-U.S. clients on U.S. property acquisitions and ownership structures
Counsel on tax and reporting obligations involving:
Foreign financial accounts
Foreign corporations
Offshore trusts
International investment structures
Support family office and closely held business planning matters
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams on:
Tax
Corporate
Real estate
Trust administration
Succession planning
Develop practical wealth transfer solutions across multiple jurisdictionsQualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school
Minimum 4 years of sophisticated international trusts and estates planning experience
Strong experience with:
Cross-border tax planning
International wealth structures
Foreign trusts
Pre-immigration and expatriation
Multinational family planning
Excellent technical, drafting, and client counseling skills
Strong written and verbal communication abilities
Practical, solution-oriented problem-solving skills
Ability to independently manage sophisticated private client matters
Active bar membership in the applicable jurisdiction requiredCompensation
New York salary range: $200,000 – $245,000
