DEPARTMENT: Sawmill

SUPERVISOR: Boiler Engineer; Sawmill General Manager

SUPERVISES: N/A

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for boiler operation.

FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Conduct feed water and boiler water tests;

2. Perform boiler blow downs;

3. Maintain cleanliness of area surrounding boiler;

4. Do light maintenance on boiler;

5. Make regular watch rounds;

6. Keep boiler inspection logs;

7. Follow all safety procedures;

8. Wear all personal protective equipment;

9. Know and understand Hancock Lumber's Safety and Mission Statements;

10. Load trucks as needed.

11. Operate a loader to fill fuel bin.

11. Other duties may be assigned.

DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Minimum - High School Diploma or GED

Preferred - Experience working in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment.

One year's experience operating wood fired boilers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of lumber industry;

2. Basic math skills;

3. Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as: safety rules,

operating instructions, and maintenance manuals;

4. Ability to remain focused;

5. Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

REPETITIVE PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Sawmill Category)

1. Lift 100# from floor to waist, lift 70# from waist to shoulder;

2. Carry 100# over a distance exceeding 12 feet;

3. Push 100# in a wheeled cart;

4. Stand on a cement floor level repeatedly;

5. Bend, stoop, or squat to floor level repeatedly;

6. Reach over head to grasp materials;

7. Ability to walk up and down stairs to access machinery.

ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. Employee will go outside when conducting watch rounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually high. Employees are required to wear steel-toed boots or shoes.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION: Boiler Operator's License

Requirements

Schedule requirement: 4:00 pm to 4:00 am. Three days on, three days off.
