Roles & Responsibilities
Decontaminate, clean and prepare a wide range of surgical instruments and specialty equipment including drills, DaVinci instruments, and scopes
Assemble instrument trays and case carts accurately per preference cards and procedure needs
Operate and monitor sterilization processes including Sterrad and steam sterilizers, perform biological and chemical indicator testing
Perform high-level disinfection and reprocessing of flexible endoscopes using Automated Endoscope Reprocessors (AER) and manual techniques
Serve as an OR liaison to ensure timely delivery and allocation of sterile instrumentation across sites
Use Censitrac tracking system for instrument tracking and documentation to maintain traceability and compliance
Maintain sterile storage procedures and immediate-use sterilization when required
Standardize and procure instrument trays across the enterprise to improve efficiency and patient safety
Qualifications
CBSPD or CRCST certification (through HSPA / formerly IAHCSMM) accepted and preferred
Minimum 3 years of experience in a high-volume facility similar to OSU (HARD STOP: 3+ years required)
Teaching hospital experience required; Trauma Level II experience required (Trauma Level I preferred)
Experience with endoscope reprocessing, HLD, AER operation, Sterrad and steam sterilization
Familiarity with Censitrac tracking system; Epic charting preferred
Ability to float to multiple reprocessing sites across the health system
Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline
Knowledge & Skills
Instrument reprocessing best practices and aseptic technique
Sterilization testing/monitoring, biological and chemical indicators
Flexible endoscope types and reprocessing (colonoscopes, bronchoscopes, EBUS, EUS, ERCP, etc.)
Tray/sets assembly, preference card usage, and case cart preparation
Operation of ultrasonic cleaners, washers, Sterrad and steam sterilizers, and AERs
Equipment documentation and specialty equipment processing across multiple surgical specialties
Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to work in a fast-paced OR-support environment
Excellent communication skills for serving as an OR liaison and interdisciplinary collaborator
