This position performs a variety of skilled tasks focused on the care, health, and presentation of plants across Lukas Nursery & Butterfly Encounter. The Growing and Maintenance Associate is responsible for maintaining plant health through watering, fertilization, pruning, and general upkeep. This individual will work both independently and as part of a team to ensure plants thrive and customers enjoy a well-maintained nursery environment. This is a full-time (30+ hours/week), non-exempt position, requiring weekday and occasional weekend hours. The role involves outdoor work in all weather conditions and the physical ability to routinely lift 50 lbs or more.

As a vital part of the Growing and Maintenance team, the associate plays a key role in ensuring the quality and appearance of our plants, contributing directly to customer satisfaction and the overall success of the nursery. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, dependable, and passionate about plants with a strong knowledge of plant care practices.

Care for plants through regular watering, fertilizing, pruning, trimming, and general maintenance.

Monitor plant health and identify issues such as pests, disease, or stress.

Assist with transplanting, spacing, staking, and other growing tasks.

Maintain a clean and organized growing environment, and outdoor areas.

Operate and maintain hoses, irrigation systems, tools, and other nursery equipment.

Follow all safety protocols and proper handling procedures for chemicals, fertilizers, and tools.

Communicate clearly with the growing manager about plant health, inventory needs, and maintenance priorities.

Assist with seasonal displays, plant staging, and other nursery presentation tasks.

Support the team with general nursery upkeep and customer service when needed.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 years of experience in plant care, horticulture, or related field preferred.

Strong knowledge of plant maintenance practices, including watering, pruning, and fertilizing.

Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly and work outdoors in varying conditions.

Excellent attention to detail and observation skills for identifying plant health issues.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or collaboratively.

Must maintain professionalism and a positive attitude when interacting with team members and customers
