Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM (Night); 5x8-hour nights with occasional scheduled holiday coverage and float to other locations
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $32 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
Decontaminate and prepare instruments and specialty equipment (drills, DaVinci, scopes) to strict infection-prevention standards
Assemble and organize instrument sets and case carts across surgical service lines, ensuring trays are complete and ready for use
Perform and document sterilization processes (Sterrad and steam) and monitor sterilization indicators
Process and high-level disinfect flexible endoscopes, using AERs and manual cleaning as required
Serve as an OR liaison—coordinate instrument allocation and ensure timely delivery to point-of-use
Use tracking systems (Censitrac) to document instrument flow and maintain equipment traceability
Standardize, procure, and maintain preference cards and instrument tray configurations across the enterprise
Troubleshoot and report equipment issues, and maintain accurate equipment documentation
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of sterile processing experience in a high-volume, teaching-hospital or similar setting (HARD STOP: 3 years required)
Required certification: CBSPD or CRCST (through HSPA/IAHCSMM) accepted
Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I preferred
Teaching hospital experience required; community hospital experience preferred
Familiarity with Censitrac or similar tracking systems and Epic charting preferred
Ability to float to multiple reprocessing sites across the health system and work holidays as scheduled
Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline
No prior employment at OSU or prior traveler assignments to OSU will be accepted
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
CBSPD or CRCST certification through HSPA/IAHCSMM required or preferred
Knowledge & Skills
Decontamination and disinfection practices
Instrument/tray assembly and case cart preparation
Sterilization monitoring and testing (Sterrad and steam)
High-level disinfection and flexible endoscope reprocessing (AERs, manual cleaning, ultrasonic)
Use of biological and chemical indicators and IUSS awareness
Experience with specialty equipment processing (Robotics/DaVinci, cardiac, ortho, transplant, etc.)
Strong aseptic technique and sterile storage practices
Proficiency with Censitrac tracking and familiarity with Epic charting
Excellent communication skills for OR liaison duties and interdisciplinary coordination
