Overall Purpose:
The litigation assistant will work closely with, and under the immediate direction of the Litigation Resource Manager, litigation attorneys, and others as assigned. This person should be able to perform essential functions of the job. Personal characteristics that will contribute to the success in this position are a strong work ethic, high degree of personal responsibility and accountability, and a high degree of organization. This is an in-person position.
Essential Job Duties include, but are not limited to:
Assistant to Litigation Department:
Perform general case management
Prepare legal documents including pleadings, motions, affidavits, complaints, discovery requests and responses and legal memoranda
E-file court documents (and paper-file when required)
Identify and submit legal documents for docketing, court and case deadlines using firm software
Management of ongoing assigned court and case deadlines
Assist attorneys with reviewing, organizing, and summarizing case materials, mail, and other case-related documents
Assist in preparation of matrices, charts, and spreadsheets as needed
Assist in preparation of privilege log
Create, revise, and proofread documents with high accuracy
Assist with arbitration and trial preparation
Keep accurate time records for billable tasks
Ability to learn and utilize document management firm software to include Microsoft and NetDocs
All other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
Undergraduate degree and/or ABA approved paralegal certificate preferred
Prior litigation experience as a legal secretary and/or junior paralegal preferred
Ability to handle multiple tasks and to remain calm under pressure
Strong desire to work in a team environment
Proficient in state and federal court e-filing
Keep abreast of court rules and procedures and understand legal terminology
Possess excellent written and verbal communication and proofreading skills with attention to detail
Ability to function in a professional and polite manner when dealing with clients, co-workers, court personnel and others
High degree of self-directed initiative and individual judgment
Ability to balance multiple projects and strong time management skills
Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve time-sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above-average critical thinking skills
Must be able to work overtime, as requiredProficiency with Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Adobe and PowerPoint) and NetDocs
Physical Demand: Lifting up to 15 pounds; kneeling, bending sometimes required. Typing/sitting at desk for long durations at a time.
The salary wage range that we expect to pay for this position is from $80,000 - $105,000 and represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of base salary at the time of posting. The actual salary offered may vary based on experience, qualifications or other relevant factors.
