Job Summary
The Feed Mill Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of feed mill operations, including personnel management, equipment optimization, and process execution. This role ensures that feed mill staff adhere to prescribed procedures and work instructions while fostering a team-based environment. The manager is accountable for the mill's financial performance, safety standards, and feed quality.
Essential Job Functions
Lead and manage feed mill personnel, providing direction and accountability
Champion health and safety initiatives within the feed mill
Oversee systems to optimize equipment effectiveness
Develop and manage yearly budgets, controlling operating expenditures
Review KPI reports and conduct trend analysis to maximize mill efficiency
Ensure compliance with quality, food safety, and site safety policies and regulations
Lead the policy deployment process within the feed mill
Manage the feed safety program in coordination with the QA Manager
Encourage continuous improvement and implement effective control systems
Inspect feed mill operations to ensure adherence to contract and code requirements
Oversee material flows for ingredient receiving, corn grinding, and load-out processes
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a technical field with 3+ years of related experience in manufacturing or food processing industry,
Experience supervising a team
Knowledge of electrical, electrical testing devices, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Understanding of electronics, PLCs, control systems, and robotics
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Preferred Qualifications
Certificate or Associate's degree in electronics, electro-mechanical, maintenance, or automation field
Experience with continuous improvement methodologies
Established relationships with external industry experts
Work Environment
This position is based at the feed mill and involves both office and production floor work. The role requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and stand for 8-12 hours. The Feed Mill Manager must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with the flexibility to work long days, weekends, and scheduled times as needed. The work environment can be noisy and may involve exposure to dust and varying temperatures. Safety is a top priority, requiring strict adherence to and enforcement of all safety protocols.
