Job Title: Library ESP 2 (Educational Support Professional)

Reports to: Building Principal

Department: Library Media

Term: School year, 184 days per WPS school calendar

Schedule: 6-hour paid work day, M-F (on-site 6.5 hours with 30 minute unpaid break) - 20 Mondays (2 per month) staying one hour later is required, on-site 7.5 hours

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, hourly position

Salary Scale: ESP Salary Scale

Job Goal: The Library paraprofessional is a person trained and skilled in the areas of technical services who provides support to the School Librarian in maintaining the effective operation of the school library. Under the supervision of the School Librarian, the paraprofessional is responsible for:

Administration of the circulation desk

Supervision of the library shelves and collections

Preparation and processing of library materials

Direction and supervision of students assigned to the library

Any other duties assigned by the School Librarian

The library paraprofessional offers basic guidance for students and staff in the use of the library including; the online catalog, location of items in the collection, and any other tasks assigned by the School Librarian. The library paraprofessional has the ability to work independently and manage continual interruptions and shifting job priorities. They should possess excellent communication, customer service and clerical skills, as well as a strong interest in working with young people.

Education: Post high school education preferably in the fields of libraries and/or education.

This position requires strong communication, customer service skills and knowledge and interest in working with all students.

CORI, SORI and Fingerprinting: All appointments are conditional based on a satisfactory CORI, SORI and SAFIS Background Check per 603 CMR 51.00.

CENTRAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

Ensures effective circulation desk and circulation procedures

Prepares and monitors library schedule for space use

Prepares materials for circulation under the direction of the School Librarian

Prepares and distributes overdue notices and assists with retrieval of checked out materials

Assists students in the use of online catalog, printers, desktop computers/devices, copiers, and other equipment as needed

Assists students and staff with accessing the library collections

Shelves and retrieves materials and assists with reorganization

Assists School Librarian with monitoring the library space to maintain a welcoming, cooperative, and productive atmosphere for all students and staff

Assists with and follows inter library loan procedures for staff and students

Assists with data reports assigned by the School Librarian

Assists with preliminary cataloging and processing of materials

Assists with displays and other library projects

Assists in supervising any students who may be assigned to the library, and support in training and supervision of student assistants and parent/community volunteers

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary, benefits, and responsibilities per contract between the Westborough School Committee and the Westborough Education Association.
