Role Description

The Assistant Store Manager (ASM) is a key member of the store leadership team, with primary responsibility for our fresh and prepared food departments (meat, deli, and prepared foods).

In this role, you’ll partner closely with store leadership to:

Annual Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 (BOE) plus bonus

Lead and develop associates

Ensure food quality, safety, and presentation

Support daily operations and performance goals

Create a welcoming environment for customers and teammates alike

What You'll Do as the Assistant Store Manager

Lead, coach, and support associates across Fresh departments to deliver consistent quality and service

Build an inclusive, respectful environment where team members feel valued and customers feel welcome

Hire, train, and develop teammates using established tools and best practices

Champion food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance

Oversee product receiving, preparation, merchandising, and presentation

Maintain accurate records for production, inventory, shrink, and sales

Use company systems for scheduling, ordering, reporting, and performance tracking

Support financial goals including sales growth, labor efficiency, shrink control, and gross margin

Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across departments

What We're Looking For

Experience leading or supervising teams in food service, retail, grocery, or hospitality

Strong understanding of mid-sized grocery store operations and merchandising techniques.

Comfort working in a fresh food or kitchen-driven environment

Must have the flexibility to work a second shift schedule, i.e. 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm and weekends.

Specialization in food service, made to order food items

Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills

Ability to learn systems, processes, and operational standards

Flexibility to work a second-shift schedule (2:00–10:00 pm) and weekends

Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation

Nice to Have (But Not Required)

Department manager or equivalent leadership experience

Experience across fresh departments (deli, prepared foods, produce, specialty foods, retail)

Experience in a fast-paced kitchen or made-to-order food environment
