Karman Maritime Defense Systems is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Metrology Engineer to join our growing quality and engineering teams. This role will support the manufacturing and inspection of production and experimental program articles, research and development of program specific inspection procedures and processes, interpretation of customer drawings to common inspection plans, and aid in development and understanding of internal drawings in accordance with common inspection practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CAD design, a passion for engineering innovation, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret customer drawings and develop program specific inspection plans for all production and experimental manufactured parts.
Independently operate FARO laser tracking and portable arm with Verisurf Software to perform inspections.
Provide daily feedback and product support to engineers and operators on practices and interpretation of customer specifications.
Develop inspection plans and procedures based on customer specifications.
Produce inspection reports showing inspection results and work with engineers to establish proper disclosures and reportable quality requirements per program contract.
Provide feedback to internal and customer drawing reviews to reflect intent and inspection capabilities.
Develop and modify 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using CAD software.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and project management.
Support prototype development, testing, and procedure development.
Maintain accurate documentation, including drawings, revisions, and technical reports.
Identify opportunities for design improvements and cost efficiencies.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
Minimum 3 years of metrology experience
Extensive knowledge in Geometric, Dimensioning, and Tolerancing (GD&T) operations using ASME Y14.5.
Proficiency using MasterCAM and Verisurf software (or Polyworks/equivalent)
Proficiency using dimensional inspection equipment (FARO or equivalent).
First article inspection experience desired.
Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in defense, aerospace, naval, or manufacturing industries
Experience with additional CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD, CATIA, Inventor) is a plus
Knowledge of industry standards and compliance requirements (e.g., ASME, ISO)
Experience working with product data management software such as SolidWorks PDM

Essential Physical Requirement:
Working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment, you will be walking, standing and engaging in movement throughout the day, and occasionally to frequently be required to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Due to a large variety of job duties (both routine and non-routine), certain duties also may involve, a variety of physical activities including bending, stretching, lifting, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms above shoulders and head, standing working in enclosed areas, climbing stairs or ladders, and operating heavy equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment can vary but noise is usually low to moderate.
You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety gloves, hearing protection, a respirator or dust mask, protective footwear and protective clothing or uniforms. Work may be performed in cold and/or hot temperatures and the environment can be dusty. Physical requirements further include the ability to engage in productive collaborative communication with co-workers and work may need to be performed during non-standard hours, including nights and weekends. At times, the ability to work overtime also may be required but it is not usual.
