Description

If you are excited about shaping the future of technology and driving significant business impact in financial services, we are looking for people just like you. Join our team and help us develop game-changing, high quality solutions.

As a Senior Lead Architect at JPMorgan Chase within Global Technology's GTEA team, you are an integral part of a team that works to develop high-quality architecture solutions for various software applications and platform products. You will partner closely with engineering and product teams to review and improve architectures for applications, platforms and critical infrastructure; evaluate control procedures and alignment to target-state and firmwide standards; and lead rationalization and optimization initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

Evaluates large platforms and critical infrastructure by identifying architecture gaps, assessing controls, and ensuring alignment with target-state architecture and firmwide standards; translate findings into actionable roadmaps with engineering teams.

Conducts architecture risk assessments across portfolios, leveraging hands-on knowledge of build, test, release, and run to pinpoint vulnerabilities, technical debt, operability gaps, resiliency weaknesses, and areas requiring remediation or investment.

Identifies duplication, redundancy, and rationalization opportunities across the technology landscape; quantify impact and escalate recommendations to leadership to drive consolidation and simplification.

Champions and maintains documentation standards ensuring current, high-quality High-Level Design (HLD) documents, C4 context/containers/components diagrams, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and related artifacts are consistently produced and governed.

Mentors and trains architects and engineers on architecture best practices, design patterns, secure-by-design principles, operational excellence, and effective documentation.

Communicates clearly complex technical concepts, trade-offs, and risk posture to diverse audiences—including senior leadership—to drive informed decisions and consensus.

Collaborates with enterprise architecture, security, risk, and compliance partners to ensure solutions adhere to firmwide policies and control frameworks; incorporate threat modeling and secure design patterns.

Participates in the evaluation of emerging technologies and architectural patterns (including AI/ML platforms, cloud-native services, and data architectures) to recommend adoption, integration, or avoidance based on fit, scalability, resilience, and risk.

Facilitates and contributes to design reviews and architecture forums with cross-functional teams to promote architectural excellence and knowledge sharing.

Coordinates or contributes to threat modeling activities for higher-risk applications and platforms, integrating findings into remediation plans.

Drives the development and use of AI copilots and agentic workflows to scale architecture review processes, automate evidence collection, and improve documentation quality and consistency.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

Formal training or certification in software engineering and architecture concepts, or 5+ years of applied experience combining architecture and hands-on development.

End-to-end SDLC expertise with proven delivery of system design, application development, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and production operations/support for complex platforms and applications.

Deep understanding of large-scale, distributed platforms including microservices, event-driven and data streaming systems, data pipelines, APIs, and cloud-native architectures across public and private cloud.

Proficiency in architecture documentation practices: HLDs, C4 diagrams, ADRs, sequence diagrams, and reference architectures; ability to keep artifacts current and actionable.

Demonstrated ability to assess architecture and operational risks, identify gaps (resiliency, reliability, security, cost), and develop remediation strategies aligned to business priorities and delivery timelines.

Experience evaluating and designing security architectures and control procedures; working knowledge of threat modeling, identity and access patterns, data protection, and compliance frameworks in complex environments.

Strong engineering fundamentals and fluency with modern stacks and practices (e.g., Java/.NET/Node/Python, containers/Kubernetes, IaC, messaging, RDBMS/NoSQL, caching, API gateways, service mesh).

Hands-on experience with observability and SRE practices (SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, logging, metrics, tracing, incident management, capacity planning) to inform architecture decisions.

Analytical skills to identify duplication and rationalization opportunities; experience with portfolio assessments, capability mapping, and target-state roadmaps.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor complex concepts to both technical

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

Hands-on experience building, integrating, or operating AI copilots/assistants for developer or architecture workflows (e.g., agentic systems that orchestrate tools to perform architecture evidence gathering, code and config analysis, control validation, documentation generation, or review automation).

Familiarity with LLMs and retrieval-augmented systems, prompt engineering, tooling orchestration, and guardrails for secure enterprise use; ability to define evaluation criteria and success metrics for AI-assisted review processes.
