Job Summary: SUNY Sullivan is seeking a part-time English Language Learner (ELL) Specialist position to assist Career and Technical Education students, whose primary language is not English, in a variety of courses and with college readiness and student success strategies.
This position reports to the Dean of Student Development Services.
This is a part-time grant-funded position.
Qualifications: * Bilingual, Spanish speaking is required.
* Associate Degree required, Bachelor's Degree preferred * Experience in helping individuals learn English as a second language * Ability to demonstrate strong knowledge in specific academic subjects * Ability to work with a diverse student population, at many skill levels, in a friendly and supportive way.
Duties and Responsibilities: * Meet with designated ELL students on a regular basis as a group cohort to provide support in building their English language skills * Meet with ELL students individually to provide academic coaching and English language skill support * Conduct ELL workshops and offer conversational opportunities for students to practice their English skills * Assess the needs of ELL students and work with professors, academic advisors, and athletic coaches to provide a platform for assisting with student success strategies.
Offer assistance with study skills such as time management, note-taking, test preparation, etc.
* Connect with faculty to review and reinforce what has been taught in classes for clarity and understanding through one-on-one or group tutoring.
Attending classes that have ELL students enrolled as appropriate * Work with faculty for assignment clarification and student guidance * Examine student progress reports with students and discuss grade improvement options * Disseminate information and refer students to other services such as academic advising, disability services, personal counseling, and career and transfer counseling.
Help students interpret important college information * Collect student usage and participation data as outlined in the Perkins grant * Write reports discussing how the grant objectives and goals were addressed and accomplished * Participate in training, staff meetings, and professional development provided by the Department of Learning and Student Development Services, One Stop and SUNY Sullivan * Perform other reasonable and appropriate duties as might be assigned Salary: This is a part-time hourly role with a pay rate of $24.06 per hour.
