Duration: 13 Weeks Job Description

A 13 week assignment on a 23 bed Med Surg unit. The position requires work nights with a start time of 18:45. First timers are accepted. Nurses will work every other weekend, and no on call is required. The clinician can float within scope and may discuss block schedules with management. Local candidates are accepted with no radius restrictions. RTO restrictions ideally limit to no more than 5 days. Responsibilities

Manage PICC lines and maintain IVs.

Provide care to adults and geriatric patients with diagnoses such as ischemic/hemorrhagic stroke, TIA, subdural hematoma, brain mass, seizures, back and neck surgeries, craniotomies, and neurological disorders.

Administer medications including levetiracetam, lorazepam, aspirin, lovenox, heparin, antihypertensives, plavix, atorvastatin, and eliquis.

Perform special procedures such as electroencephalogram (EEG) and lumbar puncture.

Float within the unit or to nearby affiliated hospitals.

Complete compliance training and modules by designated deadlines.

Work two out of three major holidays. Required Qualifications

Minimum 1 year experience in medical surgical nursing.

Active Illinois RN license.

BLS and NIH certifications.

Experience managing PICC lines.

Experience starting and maintaining IVs.

Ability to complete compliance and background policy requirements. Preferred Qualifications

Previous charge nursing experience.

Cerner charting experience.

Experience with neurological medication administration. Patient Population & Care

Patient age groups: adults and geriatrics.

Medications administered may include levetiracetam, lorazepam, aspirin, lovenox, heparin, antihypertensives, plavix, atorvastatin, and eliquis.

Equipment used: Drips for heparin; amiodarone and Lasix not titrated. Facility Highlights

Candidates may be called off for up to 36 hours during the assignment without compensation for the cancelled hours. Candidates must work two out of three major holidays. Candidates must complete compliance needs promptly. Candidates cannot have been a permanent or PRN employee for 12 months before applying.
