Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and hands-on Mechanical Engineer to join a leading industrial manufacturing operation in Decatur, Alabama. This role plays a critical part in supporting plant reliability, equipment performance, and continuous improvement efforts across the facility.
The ideal candidate will spend approximately 40% of their time on the production floor, working closely with maintenance, reliability, and operations teams to design, troubleshoot, and improve mechanical systems used in a heavy industrial environment. Depending on experience and background, the title may align as Mechanical Engineer, Reliability Engineer, or Maintenance Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and improve mechanical systems supporting industrial manufacturing equipment
Provide engineering support for boilers, furnaces, hydraulics, and other critical utility and process systems
Support and optimize equipment including batch ovens, rolling mills, soaking pits, and related production assets
Conduct mechanical analysis, simulations, and performance testing to validate designs and resolve equipment issues
Collaborate closely with maintenance, operations, electrical engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams
Troubleshoot recurring equipment failures and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions
Develop and review technical drawings, specifications, and documentation using CAD tools
Support project execution from concept through installation and commissioning
Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, safety regulations, and plant policies
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, uptime, safety, and cost reduction
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (4-year) in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
BSME strongly preferred
Minimum experience working in heavy industrial manufacturing environments
Strong working knowledge of:
Mechanical systems and equipment
Hydraulics and rotating equipment
Heat-intensive processes such as furnaces and boilers
Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar)
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in fast-paced, production-driven environments
Willingness and ability to spend significant time on the manufacturing floor
U.S. work authorization required (no visa candidates accepted)

Prior experience in industries such as:
Aluminum production
Steel mills
Foundries
Pulp & paper mills
Reliability engineering or maintenance-focused role within a process manufacturing environment
Exposure to preventive and predictive maintenance strategies
Experience supporting capital projects or equipment upgrades in an operating plant
