Title: Intermediate Architect Deputy Design Manager

Overview:

This is a multi-billion-dollar Design-Build program by the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) to construct four new buildings across four boroughs.

Responsibilities:

The Deputy Design Manager must possess excellent communication and team building skills and the ability to work proactively, independently, collaboratively, and with full transparency, as required by the DDC and the projects.

The Deputy Design Manager will be responsible for supporting the Design Manager in ensuring the delivery of the building designs by the selected Design-Build team. You will manage and instruct the selected Design-Build team, in collaboration with internal and external design consultants, and report project progress to DDC.

Responsibilities include:

Support the Design Lead in ensuring that all designs and systems are designed in compliance with defined project requirements and goals.

Support the delivery of the work packages to the required scope, quality, schedule and cost.

Assist in the coordination of design submittals, design presentations, and design charrettes reviews with internal project stakeholders.

Assist in the management of the design review process with authorities having jurisdiction.

Support the evaluation of design-builder progress against scope, quality, schedule cost and implement corrective action as needed.

Assist in the management of the multidisciplinary design elements of the buildings, tracking designer technical performance and making appropriate technical responses.

Assist in coordinating Subject Matter expert advice.

Provide technical design guidance and review integration of the designs with other design packages.

Assist in ensuring that the design documentation covers the scope of work required by the Client and is produced to agreed standards, schedule and budget.

Assist in planning for effective project implementation, identifying key issues and effectively contribute to the project’s technical planning process.

Assist in ensuring that the processes and activities being managed are appropriately documented with appropriate records maintained and quality controls applied.

Qualifications:

Strong problem recognition and proactive resolution skills

Strong organizational skills

Ability to regularly work independently and as part of a team

5+ years of relevant experience

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction or a relevant field of study

Previous experience working with New York City agencies preferred

Strong verbal and written skills in a client-facing capacity, including high level political acumen

A demonstrated commitment to continuous focused learning and skill development, including emerging technologies and tools

Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
