Ready-mix Concrete Manufacturer
Family owned company located off I-81 is seeking CDL Class B candidates for driving concrete trucks within or near Berkeley County, WV. Part-Time and Full-Time positions are available now
Job Requirements: • Must be able to take clear instructions, directions and guidance from plant supervisors.
• Must personally maintain and provide proof of an active CDL and physicals.
• Pass the initial drug screening test, and be able to participate in our random drug testing program.
• Maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and company policies.
• Understand how to perform a pre-operational check of the vehicle, including the checking of fluids such as oil and antifreeze, and that all lights are in working order. Reporting issues to mechanics before being dispatched.
• Must be at work by the appointed time and ready to start the shift with proper safety attire and equipment.
• Should be familiar with the weight/road limitations and areas of Berkeley and Frederick counties.
• Be prepared to spend time in confined spaces such as the truck cab or cleaning out drums.
All drivers are trained by an experienced driver for up to 2 weeks and must be comfortable performing all aspects of the assigned job duties before engaging in solo dispatch runs. During this training, concrete drivers will learn how the company performs multiple duties, such as how to use the loading station, how to operate the drum with proper rotation speed and adding additional products such as retardant, fiber, calcium, etc. Drivers will also learn how to drive the truck in a safe manner arriving to jobs with desired slump, maneuvering the vehicle safely at the job site, make adjustments to the slump upon customer request with water or admixtures and documenting changes to the tickets as required. Drivers will learn how to operate the controls, monitor dispensing operations and how to clear unused concrete. Drivers will also learn how to chip out dried concrete residue while adhering to all safety protocols using safe practices and PPE, as well as how to accurately fill out paperwork and communicate with the dispatch personnel.
Education/Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.
• Must be over 21 years of age
Physical Requirements and Working Environment:
• Availability to work 8 - 12 hour day shift as needed, Monday through Friday.
• Ability to walk, stand or sit for long periods of time as the job requires.
• Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms; frequently use hands and fingers to operate parts on the vehicle, tools and equipment and bags of ingredients as needed.
• Ability to frequently climb steps from 8"-24", balance, occasionally kneel, stoop, crouch or squat when inspecting equipment or cleaning the concrete from the drums. Climbing in and out of the vehicle multiple times a day.
• Occasionally push, pull and lift products. Drivers must be prepared to pull down the main chute on the truck and attach chute extensions at every job with up to approximately 60 lbs of force.
• Ability to wear hearing protection in construction areas of higher sound levels and understand hand signals for safety.
• Lifting up to 50 lbs. of product multiple times a day from floor to waist as needed. Chute extensions could weigh approximately 50 lbs.
• Ability to climb ramps, stairs or ladders on the vehicle. Ladders are also used to check the concrete and carry product to add to the load as requested by the client.
• Ability to work outdoors with a wide range of environmental exposure including being in the heat or cold.
• Ability to wash and clean trucks after use with brushes and hoses before leaving the plant with loaded product and upon return.
