The Pre Engineering Internship is an entry level, hands on opportunity designed for early career engineering students. In this role, you will support manufacturing operations by preparing electronic, electrical, and mechanical sub assemblies, final assemblies, and after assemblies.
This position is ideal for Freshman or Sophomore students currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Engineering degree program who are interested in gaining real world manufacturing experience. The ideal candidate will be available to work part time during the spring/fall semester and full time during summer and winter breaks.
What You Will Do:
Work under the general direction of the department supervisor with minimal supervision
Perform motor sub assembly, assembly, and after assembly tasks using electronic, electrical, and mechanical components, following detailed work instructions and engineering bills of material
Assemble individual components to produce sub assemblies, final motor assemblies, and after assemblies
Operate and utilize manufacturing and test equipment including manual hydraulic, air, and electric presses, balancing machines, magnet chargers, encoder testers, soldering and desoldering equipment, digital voltmeters, and other test equipment
Use calibrated measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, dial gauges, force gauges, oscilloscopes, and other specialized measuring tools
Form leads, terminals, and wire assemblies
Assemble encoders, brakes, pulleys, and lead assemblies onto finished motors
Solder electrical and electronic components into sub assemblies, after assemblies, and final assemblies
Operate motor run in and final test equipment
Maintain responsibility for both product quality and production output
Use light hand assembly tools in the normal performance of job duties
What We Are Looking For:
High school diploma or GED required
Completion of at least one year of college level coursework preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Engineering degree program (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field preferred)
Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude
Ability to lift 20+ lbs occasionally, 10–20 lbs frequently, and up to 10 lbs continuously
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, up to 8 hours per day
Additional Characteristics:
Moderate noise level in the manufacturing environment
May be exposed to industrial cleaning chemicals and oils
