Case Manager - Initial Assessment

Job SummaryUnder the direct supervision of the Child Welfare Supervisor, this position involves using Social Work Methods, principles, strength-based approaches, and interviewing techniques to assess for safety in cases of alleged maltreatment of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect.

This position will establish a rapport with parents, family members, and collateral contacts to obtain adequate information and be able to identify potential safety risk or threats; be able to determine if formal interventions are needed; develop a positive working relationship with community providers involved with treatment of the child and family along with obtaining services as deemed necessary and appropriate to the family's needs.

Court paperwork is prepared for necessary court appearances.

This position will cross-train in other units through the Youth Division department.

Additionally, the Child Protective Services case manager will provide after hours on-call services on a rotating basis.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: * Accept requests and referrals for services and determine through interviews, home visits and collateral investigations the range of services needed.-Interview clients, evaluate intake information and determine client needs.-Explain the scope of services offered and discuss the client's rights and responsibilities in relation to his/her use of such services.-Assist in planning services appropriate to client's problems, maintain client contact and review and modify plans as necessary.-Prepare studies of individuals and families in need of services and recommend and appropriate course of action.-Maintain accurate and current case records, reports and other types of correspondence.-Attend in-service training and staff development activities.-May speak before community groups on specific social problems and services.-Court preparation and testimony is required.-Manage workload to assure adequate compliance with required paperwork through Court Reports and eWiSACWIS documentation per Wisconsin State Statutes, Child Protective Services Access and Initial Assessment Standards, Child Protective Services Safety Intervention Standards and internal processes.-Participate in a rotating paid on-call system to respond to emergent situations outside of traditional business hours, including weekends and holidays.-Demonstrate the ability to critically think by constructively utilizing training and education provided along with administrative consultation-Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Work Requirements: * Bachelor's of Social Work degree (BSW) from four-year college or university, preferred; or Bachelor's Degree and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.-One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.-Requires a valid Wisconsin driver's license and adequate insurance as required by County Policy.
