Job SummaryTo analyse the risks associated with new lending, structuring and derivative proposals with the intention of facilitating new business.

Job Description

Risk Management:

Analyse customers’ businesses to understand the risks involved in offering them bank’s

commercial’s products and services (e.g. loans, trade and working capital facilities).

Understand the end-to-end commercial lending process and policies to structure and provide

customer with the right credit solutions that balance customer needs with the bank’s risk appetite.

Review and analyse financial statements, business performance, and market conditions to

understand a customer’s ability to repay.

Undertake cashflow modelling to assess the viability of lending requests.

Develop high quality, well structured credit paper (from Management, Industrial and Financial

analysis) that will enable faster decision making and credit approval.

Work with the Sales team to understand businesses’ requirements and to support the preparation

of strong credit applications.

Help the Business Banking unit understand key lending opportunities and determine appropriate

levels of risk for various industries.

Oversee the full process of credit risk reports, challenging Sales team when risks or control issues

are identified.

Serve as a technical expert and trusted advisor on credit matters for Sales and Credit risk team.

Contribute to the development of Wholesale Credit Policy when required.

Produce accurate and meaningful management reports for leadership within set deadlines.

Assist in implementing changes that improve processes, increase quality, reduce costs, and strengthen the Business Banking team.

Collaborate with colleagues to anticipate, respond to, and exceed customer expectations

Business Risk Partnership

Work in partnership with Relationship Managers on new and existing credit applications, providing guidance on credit appetite and consulting with Credit team as appropriate

Deliver service in line with agreed business needs and policy framework

Attend customer meetings with the Relationship Manager

Support and contribute to specific industry focus as determined by the Corporate and Credit teams

Maintain strong working relationships with Corporate Banking and other internal teams to resolve outstanding issues.

Participate in risk meetings and provide valuable insights.

Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, the Enterprise Wide Risk Management

Framework, and all internal ABSA policies and standards.

Identify, understand, and proactively manage risks or incidents related to your role.

Teamwork

Support Business Credit Manager in delivering effective performance development for individuals within the team

Develop and maintain a close working relationship with RMs and other functions.

Develop and maintain a database of management information to assist the monitoring and control at the Corporate and individual portfolio level.

Attend all meetings relevant to the job and to report on issues affecting team performance.

Participate, support and contribute in team activities, launches and social occasions conducted by the Business Banking.

Risk & Control

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Absa Policies and Policy Standards.

Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.
