Job Summary

The Design Engineer will assist with development and improvement projects for firearm suppressors, suppressor parts and related accessories. The Design Engineer uses knowledge of thermal and fluid dynamics, material properties, and machine design along with suppressor and firearm function to assist in this role. Additionally, the Design Engineer will play a key role in creating and managing engineering documentation, testing and evaluating prototypes, and participating in other department functions.

Classification: Full time, Exempt

Shift: Monday – Friday, core hours 8:00am-5:00pm

Location: On-site

Job Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Generate engineering analyses and designs using engineering principles and techniques such as computer aided design and design for manufacturing that meet specifications

Participate in design reviews within department and with manufacturing personnel

Follow established documentation and document control procedures

Provide technical information for creation of sales and marketing materials

Assist in continuous improvement and cost reduction efforts based on feedback from internal stakeholders and customers

Maintain knowledge of competing products and trends in the suppressor market

Assist in the development of new product design concepts supported by research, testing, and analysis

Perform hands-on work on suppressors, firearms, and accessories, including assembly/disassembly, inspection, and measurement

Coordinate as required with other internal groups including manufacturing, purchasing, quality control, sales, marketing, and accounting personnel.

Keep supervisor advised of work status, workload, problems, and progress as related to work assignments.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field, required

1 – 3 years of design experience with precision mechanical systems, preferably in the firearms industry

1 - 4 years of experience with computer-aided design and drafting. Solidworks required. Additional experience with Autodesk Inventor preferred.

Knowledge of dimensioning, tolerancing and GD&T

Familiarity with precision manufacturing processes and metal machining methods

Advanced fluid dynamics and heat transfer knowledge preferred

Experience helping to take a product from concept to launch

Demonstrated firearms familiarity and competency in firearms safety

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of software applications

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, along with the ability to propose and implement effective solutions

Willingness to learn the operation of and become proficient with various pieces of test equipment

Must be able to complete firearm and suppressor live fire testing including documentation of results

Ability to work in a team environment to achieve team, departmental, and corporate goals

Outstanding work ethic and commitment to organizational success

Must possess "soft skills": personal effectiveness, creative problem solving, strategic thinking, team building, and influencing skills

Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation)

Salary: $60,000 - $75,000 DOE.
